My name is Barbara Steffensen, and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have a Masters degree in Education at the University of Idaho in Rehabilitation Counseling and Family Services and am licensed in the state of Idaho and Washington.
I enjoy working with many different types of populations and age groups. My specialties are working with adolescents, veterans and their families, and adults with various mental health struggles.
Our society isn’t what it used to be since we were kids. Anxiety and depression in teens have sky-rocketed over the past decades and continued to climb. I have worked with adolescents for over thirteen years in various contexts such as the juvenile justice system to youth groups. I enjoy seeing their growth as they find their place in this world and learn how to manage their emotions, all the while developing critical thinking skills. It has been the most challenging and the most rewarding piece of my career.
One of the greatest opportunities in my life has been working with veterans and their families. Working through post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries can be challenging, but the rewards are great. I have worked with veterans for the past several years and value seeing the success in improved relationships with their families and their communities as well as gaining peace of mind.
I also work with adults struggling with multiple life stressors from depression and anxiety to bipolar and schizophrenia. I enjoy working with adults and addressing concerns and issues that have slowed their progress to a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle and improved quality of life.
